9-in-1 valent HPV vaccine (Gardasil9)
The latest 9-in-1 valent HPV vaccine, Gardasil 9 can help reduce the risk of related cancers and diseases caused by 9 HPV genotypes (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58) by 90%, and even 98% effectively prevent cervical precancerous lesions caused by HPV6, 11, 16, and 18.
Gardasil 9 contains the same 4 HPV genotypes (6, 11, 16, 18) as in the 4-in-1 valent HPV vaccine with 5 additional HPV genotypes (31, 33, 45, 52, 58). The protection against cervical cancer also increased from 70% to 90%.
Gardasil 9 was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in December 2014 and began to be administered in February 2015. Hong Kong is the third vaccinable area after the United States and Canada, providing Asian women with more comprehensive protection against HPV and cervical cancer.
