A blood test is usually a serum antibody test to show past infection. It is a quick and reliable test for HIV, herpes 1 and 2, hepatitis, syphilis, etc.
However, each test has a different window period, and it may also be affected by the infection route and personal medical records. The following is for reference only:
- Herpes (IgG) – 4 weeks
- Syphilis (IgM + IgG) – 2 to 4 weeks
- Syphilis (VDRL) – 4 to 6 weeks
- Hepatitis – 4 weeks
