A blood test is usually a serum antibody test to show past infection. It is a quick and reliable test for HIV, herpes 1 and 2, hepatitis, syphilis, etc.


However, each test has a different window period, and it may also be affected by the infection route and personal medical records. The following is for reference only:

  • Herpes (IgG) – 4 weeks
  • Syphilis (IgM + IgG) – 2 to 4 weeks
  • Syphilis (VDRL) – 4 to 6 weeks
  • Hepatitis – 4 weeks

Syphilis

Synopsis:It is used to determine infection over 4 weeks or previous infection of syphilis. This test is usually used as a screening test for syphilis.

Synopsis:It is a secondary test for syphilis which provides a semi-quantitative level of antibody in blood.  It is used as a confirmation if TP antibody is positive, to determine the likely stage of infection and response to treatment.
