Reasons for STD testing
In recent years, more and more people have realized the importance of sexual health and the importance of regular checkups.
Regardless of men or women, different people have different reasons for receiving sexual health examinations. Based on different needs, we have different testing items. Here are some common reasons for having a sexual health check:
1. Periodic inspection
Many STDs are asymptomatic. Regular check-ups can not only identify the infection early, treat it early, reduce the risk of complications, but also reduce the chance of infecting sexual partners.
2. Pre-relationship check
While condom use is an effective way to prevent HIV, it does not completely protect against all STDs. Or at certain stages in the relationship, partners may decide not to use condoms, and it is important to make sure that everyone is free of infection before doing so.
3. Prenatal checkup
STDs can cause complications without any symptoms, such as blocked fallopian tubes, decreased sperm quality, resulting in difficulty in fertility or infertility, etc. Transmission of diseases can also cause babies to be infected at birth. In addition to HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B, chlamydia, gonorrhoeae, mycoplasma, etc. should be considered standard prenatal screening.
4. After unsafe exposure
If unsafe sexual contact has occurred, you should consult a sexual health practitioner as soon as possible, because there are different ways to reduce the risk of infection. The timing of the test is very important, because different infections have different window periods, and testing too early may give you false negative results and provide a false sense of security. In some cases, there are medications available for post-exposure treatment to reduce the risk, even of HIV infection.
