Non-sweetened soy milk, non-sweetened whole wheat toast, and boiled eggs are commonly believed to be healthy dietary options, but they may actually be the culprits behind inflammation in the body. According to Yu-Hsuan Liu, a nutritionist, statistics show that milk, eggs, yellow soybeans, and wheat are among the top 10 allergens for Taiwanese individuals. Nomah-friendly food sensitivities can cause prolonged chronic inflammation, leading to symptoms such as runny nose, constipation, diarrhea, acne outbreaks, and insomnia.
In a Facebook post, Liu pointed out that chronic inflammation caused by food allergies can manifest in various ways, including hives, runny nose, sneezing, unexplained acne breakouts, metabolic imbalance, edema, obesity, mood swings, indigestion, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and insomnia, affecting different body systems such as the respiratory system, emotions, senses, and digestive system.
Dr. Yu-Wen Yang, a specialist in family medicine at Da-Lin Tzu Chi Hospital in Chiayi, noted that some patients in the outpatient clinic complain of general body pain, gastrointestinal discomfort, abdominal distension, dizziness, and unexplained abdominal pain. Despite conducting various biochemical tests, no abnormalities are found. Therefore, it is during allergen testing that some food allergies are identified.
Dr. Yang further explained that common allergenic foods among Taiwanese individuals include egg yolks, egg whites, milk, honey, and nuts, all of which are widely consumed and nutrient-rich. She added, “Some people may have allergies, but the symptoms may not be very obvious. It gradually causes inflammation in the body, leading to long-term discomfort.”
In addition to allergen testing, Dr. Yang suggests that if individuals suspect an allergy to a certain food, they should refrain from consuming it for three days and observe if any symptoms improve. If symptoms return once the food is reintroduced, it is likely an allergic reaction, and they should try to avoid it in the future.
